After the first images surfaced this morning, Mercedes has brought the official details on the Concept Shooting Break that will make its world debut at Auto China 2010. The concept is a preview version of the CLS-Class Station Wagon model, but it also represents a clear indication of the further emotional appeal of the Mercedes design idiom.

The concept’s exterior is defined by a long bonnet, narrow-look windows with frameless side windows and a dynamic roof. A first on a Mercedes model are the full LED headlamps divided into three arrow-shaped layers from top to bottom with a total of 71 LEDs. The concept sits on large 20-inch sterling silver wheels, featuring a special bionically arranged five-spoke filigree design.

Under the hood Mercedes placed its latest V-engine generation: a 3.5 liters V6 engine that produces 306 HP with a maximum torque of 370 Nm.

On the interior the concept gets natural wood and leather materials and a large full-length center console.

Volkswagen has unveiled the Milano Taxi at the Hannover Messe for its official world debut. It is a study of a mass-market taxi powered by an electric motor and designed for urban transport. It features a cargo area integrated in the taxi’s interior and individualized touch screens for driver and passengers. The taxi features one swivel-sliding door and is basically a mini mini-van. The black and green color combination was chosen as a tribute to the Milan taxis of yore that were painted in that exact color combination.The Milano Taxi is powered by an electric motor with a peak output of 113 HP; energy is supplied from a lithium ion battery integrated in the underbody, giving a range of up to 300 kilometers. The sedan’s design is defined by taut and fluid lines with the Renault logo, foglamp surrounds, and headlamp brows. The Renault Fluence Z.E.’s interior is based on the same layout as the internal combustion-engined version. Only the rev-counter has been replaced by a bespoke instrument panel which displays data concerning the remaining range and battery charge. The decorative trim of the uncluttered dashboard is picked out in a color that is exclusive to the model, while the center console includes the displays “forward”, “reverse”, “neutral” and “parking” which are the different positions for the transmission control lever.

All-electric cars are coming out of the woodwork, so it really isn’t an ingenius idea to come out with a production model for the Fluence Z.E. We can bet that Renault is kicking themselves for not putting it into production earlier, but they could have been waiting for someone like Daimler to come along. The Daimler/Renault alliance was just announced on April 7, 2010.
